Leave sharper than you arrived.
Cuts, fades, hot-towel shaves and beard work on 17th Ave SW. Bookings preferred. Walk-ins when the lamp’s on.
Opened last spring. Run like it’s year thirty.
Hollis cuts. Crane shaves. The lamp in the window keeps the door honest. We’re a three-chair shop that believes a barbershop should be quieter than a bar, faster than a salon, and blunter than either.
No upsell scripts, no product wall you have to walk past twice, no playlist at conversation-ending volume. Sharp tools, hot towels, straight answers — and a chair that’s yours for exactly as long as the work takes.
The board.
Prices as posted, no asterisks. Every service ends with a hot towel — see house rule one.
Tap a line for the fine print.
Scissors over comb, a clean neckline, hot towel to finish. The cut your best photos are already wearing.
Zero at the skin, blended until nobody can say where. Bring a photo or bring trust — both work here.
Straight razor, two lathers, three towels. Forty minutes during which no one can reach you. That’s the service.
Line, weight, shape, oil. The difference between having a beard and having made a decision.
The whole bird. Ninety unhurried minutes, out the door polished. You’ll want to cancel whatever’s next — do.
Twelve and under, Saturdays before noon. Patience included. First-chair nerves handled quietly, no fuss made.
Card, cash, tap. Tips go to your barber, not the house.
Three chairs. No roulette.
You book the barber, not the shop. Ask for whoever sounds like your kind of trouble.
Four rules. We keep them so you don’t have to.
Hot towel with every cut.
Not an upsell, not a promotion. A policy since day one, and it’s staying.
Your phone can wait. Or don’t.
We’re barbers, not your dad. The chair is quieter without it, is all we’ll say.
We’ll tell you if the style won’t suit you.
Once, gently, before the clippers are on. After that — your head, your call.
Seventh cut’s on the house.
We keep the count so you don’t have to. You just keep showing up.
The shop, to go.
Two things under the house label, mixed for dry Calgary air — and the one gift that has never once been returned.
Pomade
Firm hold, low shine. Survives a toque, a meeting, and the walk between the two.
Beard oil
Cedar and bitter orange. Softens the beard; the opinions are yours to keep.
The easy out
Solves most Decembers and the occasional apology. Sold at the till or by email.
What the chairs hear back.
I chased this haircut through four provinces. Turns out it was on 17th Ave the whole time.
Mabel called my inspiration photo “a haircut for a different head,” then gave me a better one. I tip like it’s her birthday now.
The Full Crane is ninety minutes long and I would defend it in court.
About the lamp.
There’s a brass lamp in our front window. When it’s on, a chair is open and walk-ins are welcome — come straight in. When it’s off, we’re booked to the minute, and the kindest thing we can do is not make you wait on a bench pretending otherwise.
Checking the lamp…
Email bookings@hollisandcrane.ca with a rough time and whose chair you’re after. We reply between clients — usually within the hour.
