Cognitive behavioural therapy
Noticing the automatic thoughts that steer your days — then testing them against the evidence of your actual life.
Registered psychologists · Eau Claire, Calgary
Confluence Psychology is two registered psychologists at the meeting of the Bow and the Elbow. We work with adults on anxiety, burnout, relationships, grief, and the seasons that rearrange everything — carefully, and in plain language.
15 minutes, phone or video, no pressure.
The concern index
Six of the most common reasons adults sit in our chairs — what each one tends to feel like, and what working on it actually involves. If yours isn't on the list, the fit call is still the right first step.
Everything above is adult, one-to-one work (relationships can include a partner). We don't currently see children or adolescents — but we know good people who do, and we'll tell you who.
We're named for the spot outside our window, where the Bow meets the Elbow — two currents becoming one steadier river. It's not a bad model for what happens in the room.
How we work
Three approaches carry most of our work. We're trained in all of them and precious about none of them — the method serves you, not the other way around.
Noticing the automatic thoughts that steer your days — then testing them against the evidence of your actual life.
Less time arguing with painful thoughts; more time building a life around what matters to you anyway.
A structured way to help the brain refile stuck memories, so the past can finally feel like the past.
The plan is built around you in the first two sessions, reviewed honestly as we go, and adjusted the moment it stops earning its keep.
Your first session
Most people are more nervous about the first appointment than anything that happens in it. Here's the whole shape of it, so nothing is a surprise.
A short intake form and your insurance details, handled ahead of time — so the hour belongs to you, not to paperwork.
Practicalities. We explain confidentiality and its few legal limits in plain language, and answer anything you want to ask us first.
You talk; we listen and ask questions that earn their place. You don't need a story prepared — questions are enough, and "I don't know where to start" is a perfectly good place to start.
An honest read on fit and a rough shape of the work — how often, roughly how long, what we'd tackle first. You decide about a second session at home, not in the room.
The psychologists
Small is the point. You'll always talk to a psychologist — never a call centre — and when the better fit is the office next door, the referral takes about thirty seconds.
PhD · Registered Psychologist (R.Psych)
Focus: anxiety, burnout, and life transitions — with a soft spot for high-functioning people who are quietly running on empty.
Currently rebuilding a cedar-strip canoe, which she describes as "exposure therapy for perfectionism."
MSc · Registered Psychologist (R.Psych)
Focus: trauma and EMDR, grief, and relationships. A former paramedic — he came to psychology because the hardest part often starts after the emergency is over.
Ask him about the Bow at six in the morning. He has opinions, and a thermos.
Both registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Both bound by its standards — which shape this website more than you'd think (see below).
Fees & insurance
$220/ 50-minute session
In line with the provincial fee guideline recommended by the Psychologists' Association of Alberta. Receipts for everything, always.
The 15-minute fit call is free, and stays free if you decide we're not it.
We bill most major insurers directly — Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, GreenShield and others — so you pay only what your plan doesn't cover.
Not sure what your plan includes? Bring it to the fit call and we'll help you read it.
We hold a small number of weekly appointments at a reduced fee for people whose benefits have run out — or never existed.
They're limited, and they're sometimes full. If cost is the barrier, ask anyway: the honest worst case is a short wait.
Our college's ethics forbid soliciting them — and we think that's right. Therapy is private. Your hardest year shouldn't be anyone's marketing.
Judge us by the fit call instead.
The fit promise
Decades of outcome research agree on one thing: the relationship between you and your psychologist predicts progress better than any technique. So we treat fit as a clinical question, not a sales one.
Some fit calls end with us recommending a colleague across town — someone whose training or manner suits you better. We count those as good calls, and we make the introduction ourselves.
You'll leave the call with a next step either way.
A free fit call — tell us what's going on, ask us anything, and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right people to help. No paperwork, no obligation, no hard sell. There isn't a soft sell either.
Phone or video. Evenings available Monday–Thursday.
